Location : Bujumbura, Burundi
The World Bank Africa Region’s Global Practice for Macroeconomics and Fiscal Management (MFM) is seeking to recruit a highly organized and seasoned Economist with excellent technical and analytical skills to be based in the Bujumbura office to support the overall work-program of Burundi (MFM).
S/he will be responsible for the monitoring, assessment of macroeconomic developments and contribute to the preparation and supervision of the MFM’s work program which includes Governance projects and analytical and advisory activities. S/he will work closely with the Lead Economist and the Senior Economist for Burundi.
The Economist will be expected to :
(i) Monitor developments in the economy, research and analyze the country’s economic, financial and sector issues ;
(ii) Maintain macroeconomic database and regularly prepare an updated medium-term macroeconomic projections.
(iii) Collect and analyze data as well as participate in exchange of information with Government, private sector officials, other international financial institutions and maintain the Live Data Base (LDB) ;
(iv) Participate in the design, preparation and implementation of budget support and lending operations ;
(v) Participate in the design, preparation and dissemination of analytical economic work and reporting on Burundi, including country economic updates, Public Expenditure Reviews ; and coordinate the preparation of the Country Policy and Institutional Assessment (CPIA) ;
(vi) Prepare briefs and analytical notes, and contribute to the writing of sections in analytical reports, in particular for the biannual Burundi Economic Updates
(vii) Support the Country Management Unit (CMU) in the implementation of the World Bank’s Burundi program
(viii) Engage in policy dialogue with governments of Burundi in coordination with the Lead Economist or Senior Economist ;
(ix) Develop and maintain active engagement with other development partners and local think tanks and researchers.
The successful candidate will be a holder of at least a Master’s degree in Economics or closely related field with at least five years’ of relevant work experience (PhD Preferred). S/he will have extensive skills and experience in working on economic policy issues and data analysis with proven strong conceptual, analytical and evaluative skills in these areas.
