E. Key Responsibilities
1. Update fault records for Transmission, BTS and Access radio databases.
2. Carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance programs on the Transmission, BTS and Access Radio networks.
3. Carrying out fault diagnostics on the Transmission, BTS and Access Radio networks.
4. Configuring connections on all Transmission networks, Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN), Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) networks, Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), Base Switching Center (BSC) networks, and Access Radio terminals.
5. Analyses alarms and logs details to establish faults trends and develop corrective measures
6. Carrying out capacity upgrades and downgrades on the Access Radio and Transmission Network System when required to do so.
7. Updates records, system drawings, station files, route schematics of the Transmission network, the BTS network and the Access Radio network.
8. Assists Transmission and Radio Planning section, when required to do so, in the installation, testing and commissioning of radio, line and digital cross connect systems and base stations.
9. Assist on training of Graduate engineers, Technicians and Students on attachment.
F. Education
• Degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Engineering or Related Discipline
• Telecoms Transmission Technician Training Course from a recognised institution of higher learning
G. Knowledge and Skills
• Computer literate
• Ability to climb masts and do rigging
• Understanding of GSM basics
• Network Topology like ring structure, daisy chain structure and their traffic handling capabilities and characteristics
• Functionality of telecommunication network transmission nodes
• Functionality of transmission mediate test equipment
• Knowledge of optical fibre characteristics
• Knowledge of alarm types, resolution and remedy SLAs and escalation matrix
• Possession of a valid Class B Driver’s License
H. Experience
• A minimum of 2 years hands on experience with digital Radio, Transmission and Optical Systems and exposure to SPC exchanges.
• Operate transmission equipments like Microwave (TDM and IP based) radio, multiplexers, antennas and work on SDH and PDH transmission technology
• Standard troubleshooting activities that are performed at transmission nodes
